Dance That Moves You
Contact & Solo Explorations into What Makes a Dance Feel Alive
What makes a dance feel alive?
What makes a dance feel like art?
What makes your solo or duet feel like a high-quality dance?
In this afternoon workshop we’ll explore these questions through contact improvisation and solo movement. With guided scores and group reflection, we’ll generate material together and uncover our own “top three” qualities of dance.
This lab-like workshop invites your insight, your questions, and your dancing body. These questions are like Dance Koans — Zen riddles that open the mind rather than close it — questions to be danced, on the way to uncovering new possibilities in dance and in life.
We’ll begin with a spacious warm-up, move into specific CI explorations, and then open into group scores where we’ll work with the questions you bring.
If your dancing has felt flat or a bit confusing, or you sometimes feel that just a bit more confidence could take your dance (nervous system- life) to a new place-
you’ll rediscover fresh way to practice and think about moving with others:)
✨ Basic comfort and familiarity with CI and/or dance improvisation recommended.
