3 hour workshop in the beautiful studio in Denver,
@ 125 S Sherman St. in Denver
For Who?
This workshop invites all dance and movement lovers to jump in and grow your possibilities and freedom in your Movement , relating, and Dance!
If you are curious about implementing clear and coherent Contact Improvisation research in service of empowering your courage and confidence in Dance and Life- jump in!
This workshop will focus on giving clear ideas for solo improvising, and experimenting with more authenticity in the creative Solo dance which can lead to a more engaging duet.
We will work with visibility and expand our comfort zone with space taking, moving big and small, and being able to join and practice Solo dancing gracefully. This work will indeed pave your way to more possibilities in your Dancing body!
About the Workshop:
This Workshop is designed to expand your dancing edges, to be slightly out of the comfort zone- but in a way that is fun, safe, and creative.
Part of the research will consist of finding new pathways for introducing instinct and response into our dance, while sharing, and incorporating approaches from CI, martial arts, and authentic movement to enrich our capacity for presence in motion.
On the technical side, we will explore subtle variations of allowing the body to become more fluid and liquid like. We will expand body tonality, so that we can move with more strength and more fluidity by choice rather than default. This foundation will lead us to find more organic continuation in our dance, as well as open up the potential for greater weight sharing and organic lifts. The first half of the workshop we will create a common language with exploring experiential anatomy of the iliac crest, and it's foundational support of lifts, invitations, and the rolling point.
On the poetics side, during the second half of the day:
we will invite more imagination, wildness, and levity in our personal solo and group improvisational dancing. We will learn how to grow our listening to the dance which wishes to emerge in present moment time. We will also use small group sharing to stir up new perspectives on the practice of space taking and feeling "expansive" in our body and dance.
In my dancing and teaching I enjoy blending scores and games which create clear containers for expression, while using Contact skills as a medium for expressing ideas and emotions. This blend allows for a balance between employing improvisational intelligence alongside learning new pathways and specific movement skills.
In this way our dancing can be a meeting point between skill, imagination, poetry, and surprise.
How do we give ourselves more permission to Dance with presence, flow, and ease?
How do we communicate the skillful application of touch through the dance and bodywork warm-up?
Is DANCE something we do- or a state we create and then visit?
These are some of the questions we will work with alongside your current curiosities!
Join us for a highly experiential day of improvisational dancing and contact improvisation, where we will dive into a rich and colorful somatic Saturday. Giving care and attention to our body, and taking the time to be and practice Dance with others offers a way to empower ourselves and honor the creative intelligence which is moving us in life.
Some of the topics we will touch on:
• Iliac Crest and ASIS bones: experiential anatomy warm up.
•Using scores to create clarity through the dance.
• Creating dynamic tension in tone
• learning tools for improvising solos in order to arrive present and engaged in a duet.
• Visibility work: The edge of getting more comfortable with sharing our Dance with friends.
