Tracking Touch
A Somatic Bridge from Touch into Movement Improvisation
Trixie Studio
March 19- April 30 5:45-7:45
An invitation to embody greater comfort, competence, and confidence in intuitive touch and movement.
I have personally gained so much from the mediation and grounding qualities that Shiatsu bodywork gave me, that I had a felt sense I could take some of that ease and spacious approach into my CI dance. I believe Contact and Improvisational dance holds potential to access and practice more ease, breath, informed skillful touch, as well as humor and lightness in dance and life!
Rooted in Zen Shiatsu and Watsu, and informed by somatic practices including Contact Improvisation, Body-Mind Centering®, and Feldenkrais, this work explores how touch can be simple, responsive, and deeply human.
Rather than leading with fixed techniques, we tune attention toward listening — using clear, supportive structures to sense what brings ease, clarity, and trust into contact.
We will work on and off the mats to experience the foundations of Shiatsu bodywork, and how they can translate into more calm-connected-attentive CI Dancing.
When touch is experienced as natural and available, it can become a place of rest. From this environment of ease, movement begins to emerge without strain, allowing (bodywork &) dances to unfold with less effort and more presence.
With the deeper understanding of quality and intelligence in touch,
as the dance becomes richer and more complex, the capacity to remain grounded grows alongside it, rather than overwhelming.
Touch and movement become tools for staying connected — to oneself, to another, and to the unfolding moment.

The Spring series Tracking Touch series is a deeper dive into this way of relating — developing sensitivity, clarity, and embodied confidence within a smaller ongoing group.
I believe a small group, working consistently is the best way to advance in somatic sensibilities and Contact Improvisation. It allows for trust and nervous sytem coherence to be built slowly.
With continuity and group cohesion, we explore how touch and movement can become a reliable foundation for connection and improvisation.
This longer arc allows for:
• integration over time
• refined listening skills
• clearer boundaries and an ability to modify weight and pressure through the skin
• deeper comfort in complexity
Tracking Touch series is aimed at helping movers transform effortful contact/touch into grounded, intuitive connection — even if they’ve felt stuck or unsure in the dance — in just 7 weeks.
The Open Day tuition will be credited toward the series if you enroll within one week of the class.

What We’ll Explore
The class moves through several modes:
• Shared warm-up
• Experiential anatomy
• Bodywork practice with feedback
• Open movement exploration
Each section feeds the next — allowing touch to naturally give way to movement, and movement to return to listening.
Dance improvisers will learn how to use contact and touch with more inner clarity and skill.
Those with bodywork experience will gain a felt sense of the wider improvisational dance that can emerge from intuitive touch.
No prior experience in therapeutic bodywork modalities is required — curiosity, presence, and a willingness to explore are enough.
*some background & familiarity with CI /Dance is recommended
